Heart Kyol Che 2026
A 90-Day Online Zen Meditation Intensive
Practice together. Strengthen your direction. Deepen your vow.
Jan 4th – April 5th 2026
What is Kyol Che?
In the Korean Zen tradition, Kyol Che means “tight dharma” or “coming together.” For centuries, practitioners have gathered in temples and monasteries for 90-day intensive retreats each winter and summer. This tradition continues today across Asia, Europe, and North America — and now, with Heart Kyol Che, you can participate wherever you are.
What is Heart Kyol Che?
Heart Kyol Che is a 90-day intensive meditation retreat that you join from home — while still staying deeply connected to a global meditation community.
Whether you are limited to travel to an in-person Kyol Che or can only attend for part of it, Heart Kyol Che offers the support, structure, and inspiration to help you stay committed to your daily practice.
Why Join Heart Kyol Che?
Deepen Your Commitment
Heart Kyol Che is an opportunity to deepen our practice. Our commitment to Heart Kyol Che is not just for ourselves, but to also realize our vow to help this world. As our practice grows, we become more centered and our direction becomes clearer. The energy of our practice manifests throughout our life, helping our family, our friends, our community and all beings. As the Buddha said, "If one mind is clear, then the whole universe is clear."
Grow Dharma Friendships
Being part of the Heart Kyol Che group allows us to support others and be supported.
By practicing in an international community of Zen practitioners, you can share your experience, receive encouragement, and build lasting dharma friendships.
Strengthen Your Daily Meditation Practice
Heart Kyol Che helps you create a strong, consistent meditation rhythm — supported by shared practice, daily inspiration, and accountability tools.
Many of us find it difficult to sustain a consistent daily Zen practice on our own. Making a shared commitment with others can help provide the support to turn Zen practice into an integrated part of our daily routine.
Receive Personal Guidance & Support
Our participation in Heart Kyol Che provides the opportunity to develop a closer relationship with experienced Zen teachers through 1:1 consultations, kong-an interviews, and group events.
Wisdom and support from teachers can help us navigate tricky areas of practice and find inspiration to continue on our spiritual path.

Frequently Asked Questions About Heart Kyol Che 2026
-
Usually, when we first discover Zen practice, we jump in feet first, with great enthusiasm and energy. But at some point, challenges will arise. Maybe the outside situation becomes overwhelming or we just become lazy. After a plateau, some of us lose steam, and our willpower wanes. Doing deliberate practice in the company of others can help us renew our intention, reignite our original fire and return us to beginner's mind.

Yes, of course! But, if we only practice alone, it can be easy to go astray on the dharma path. In those times, we need sound feedback, someone to guide us back to the correct path. Support in the form of gentle friendly reminders, deliberate nudges, or maybe even a good cosmic “whack” can help put us back on track!

Daily practice commitment:
For these three months, we encourage you to decide on some formal practice that you can do regularly. If you already do it, we suggest doing a bit more, just enough to make it challenging for you to grow. That could be an extra 108 bows daily, more sitting or chanting, an extra mantra walk, joining more group practice sessions and extra kong-an interviews online, or any other practice that you feel can benefit you. If you need some advice on how to do it, we can help you. A 1:1 consultation with a teacher is available once per month during Heart Kyol Che.Practicing together with others: Please try to attend a group livestream meditation session at least once per week. It’s usually easier to maintain our daily practice commitment when we regularly practice together with others.
Kong-an practice: Please try to attend at least two kong-an interviews per month during Heart Kyol Che. Connecting with our teachers regularly can help our practice grow.
Retreat: Please try to attend at least one online retreat during the 3-month period. And if you’re able to do one retreat each month, that will greatly boost your Heart Kyol Che practice.
Supporting each other: Please also try to check in with our online group once a day, let us know how your practice is going and encourage others. The Heart Kyol Che private course within our community forum is there to help you connect with other practitioners and get support, as well as for giving encouragement to others.
