What is Kwan Um Zen Online?
Kwan Um Zen Online (KUZO) is the online extension of the Kwan Um Zen tradition. We offer global access to Zen meditation practice, teachings, and sangha (community) for anyone, anywhere in the world, regardless of individual circumstance.
Do I need to be a Buddhist to join?
No. People of all faiths and backgrounds, including secular practitioners, are welcome. Many practitioners come with no prior experience — just curiosity and an open mind.
How do I join online meditation sessions or other programs?
All sessions are held on Zoom. Simply register for the event you’re interested in, then join by clicking the link in the registration confirmation email.
What if I can’t attend live sessions?
Many programs — like the Zen Study Series — are recorded. Video and audio replays are available so you can watch or listen when it works best for you. You can also send questions in advance or post in the online community forum.
I’m new to meditation. Can I still join?
Yes! Beginners are warmly welcomed. Most of our daily meditation sessions, classes, and short retreats are beginner-friendly. We encourage people to ask questions and reach out for support at any time.
Do I have to sit on the floor to meditate?
No. While traditional cushions are common, many people use chairs. At home, you can use whatever seating is most comfortable for your body. If you have trouble finding a comfortable position, we can schedule an individual session to help you find the best meditation position.
How can I ask questions or get support?
You can:
Ask during live sessions
Send questions ahead of time to teachers
Use the online community forum
Schedule 1:1 consulting interviews with a teacher (available in some programs)
Email us: support@kwanumzen.org
Are there fees for online meditation programs?
Some programs are free, while others have registration fees. Each program page lists details about costs and sliding-scale options. We also offer scholarships.
Can I connect with other meditation practitioners online?
Yes! KUZO offers:
A private online community forum
Group meditation livestreams
Community events and study groups
These are wonderful spaces to share experiences, ask questions, and build connections.
What if I have family or work obligations?
Kwan Um Zen teachings emphasize integrating practice into daily life. KUZO programs are designed to be flexible and accessible, so you can integrate practice into your family, work, and daily routines.
