Dragon Needs Space
Happy New Year of the Dragon!
Dragons need space to move. This year is a great year for us to wake up to our original mind, which is like space and clear. Then, we can use this space to live our lives freely with wisdom and can support each other without any conflict or hindrances.
There is a poem from Hua-Yen (Avatamsaka) Sutra, it says,
If you want to understand the realm of the Buddha,
Keep a mind that is clear like space,
Let all thinking and external desires fall away,
Let your mind go any place with no hindrance.
Our mind has this Buddha awakening nature. If we want to reconnect with this mind, all we need to keep is our pure consciousness, which is clear like space. Space embraces all things in this universe. Space has no problem or conflict with anything appearing in it.
This is the same as our mind. If we can keep a distance from our thinking and emotions despite all our external situations, conditions and relationships, that space will help us function freely with wisdom. Keeping this mind will help yourself and others—like the dragon without any hindrance. Inside our minds, there is this space which helps us to digest anything that appears in our mind. At the same time, physically, we can move and function freely like the dragon without any hindrance.
I hope all of us in The Year of the Dragon attain this space inside our minds, which is identical to the space in the universe; and with this bright mind filled with harmony, you will achieve your goal naturally.
Blessings in dharma,
